Focus and Scope
EDITOR IN CHIEF’S NOTE
(Rashid Ahmed MD, FCPS, DABR)
It gives me great pleasure to write this inaugural issue message to you as the Editor in Chief of the Pakistan Journal of Radiology.
Medical journals play a vital role in the practice of medicine today. They provide a forum for the presentation and dissemination of medical knowledge which may impact patient care. The volume and scope of medical literature in the West is overwhelming. However, much of this data is not
relevant to the practice of medicine in Pakistan. The publication of local data is crucial to publicize locally relevant information that would guide the diagnosis and treatment of patients in Pakistan.
Such a journal also provides an opportunity for Radiologists and particularly Radiology trainees in Pakistan to develop skills of critical thinking, literature review, and medical writing which are essential for a career in academia. Finally, foreign journals are not available to all Radiologists in Pakistan.
Previous efforts to regularly publish a Radiology journal in Pakistan have been only partially successful. However, under the dynamic leadership of the Editor, Dr. Zafar Sajjad, and his team, I am optimistic that the present effort will succeed in publishing a journal of highest standards and we will soon be able to have it indexed. We need the support of the Radiology community especially from those working in academic institutions by providing articles for this journal. I am encouraged by the financial assistance from the Radiology related companies which is essential for the success of this journal.
Finally I hope the members of the Radiology Society will benefit greatly from this journal and thank everybody involved with the journal.
