Author Guidelines

Pakistan Journal of Radiology (PJR) is published quarterly. All authors are referred to the "Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted for Biomedical Journals" (www.icmje.org/. OR N Engl J Med 1997;336:309-15) for style, format and layout. It is assumed that submitted manuscripts are not under review elsewhere. Only individuals making a substantial contribution to the content of the paper should be included as authors. Generic drug names and SI units should be used throughout. All submissions (except Letters to the Editor) should be accompanied by a short covering letter identifying the editor/corresponding author of the work. In addition all submissions (except Letters to the Editor) should begin with a title page including the title of the paper, list of authors ‘ names, institutional or organisational affiliations and contact information, inlcuding e-mail address for the corresponding author.
Contributions are welcome in the following categories:
Original Articles: Manuscript should be organized into Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, and Discussion. A structured abstract (Background, Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions & Key words) of up to 250 words is required. Word length 4,000 max.; up to 25 references.
Review Articles: Should not exceed 5,000 words and should include no more than 8 single illustrations. If multiple images are to be used (eg la, lb,lc) these must be included in the total; up to 20 references.
Pictorial Review:
Should not exceed 2,500 words and should include no more than 16 single illustrations. If multiple images are to be used (eg la, lb,lc) these must be included in the total; up to 20 references.Please discuss your idea for a review or pictorial review with the editor prior to writing. Please note
that a favourable response to this discussion does not guarantee publications. All submissions are
subject to editorial and peer review and the final decision to publish will be based on this recommendation.
Issues in Clinical Practice:
These are short papers providing discussion and analysis on practical issues relevant to contemporary clinical practice. Word length 1,000-1,500; up to 10 references.
Technical Reports:
Should be no more than 2,000 words in length. Up to 15 references.
Technologists Section:
Manuscripts should highlight a professional or academic issue pertaining to the radiology, radiotherapy or nuclear medicine technologists. Significant contribution should be from a technologist. Maximum length 3000 words. Up to 10 references.
Residents Section:
Manuscripts should highlight a professional, educational or academic issue pertaining to the radiology trainees. Significant contribution should be from a radiology trainee. Maximum length 3000 words. Up to 10 references.
Computers in Radiology:
Submissions should highlight the use of digital and information technology as it is applied to the practice of Radiology. Areas include (but are not confined to) PACS, Teleradiology, Radiology
Information Systems, communications, image processing and manipulation etc. Maximum word length 2500 words. Up to 10 references.
Management Systems in Radiology:
Submissions pertaining to issues arising from the operational side of the practice of radiology. Examples include quality assurance, financial aspects of radiological practice etc.
Case Reports:
Must be original and carry an important message. Maximum of single 4 images. If multiple images
are to be used (eg la, lb,lc) these must be included in the total. Word length 1,500 words; up to 10 references.
Book Reviews:
These are critical appraisal of books that would hold interest for professionals in Radiology. Submission in this category is generally by invitation; however, unsolicited manuscripts are also welcome. Word length 500 words.
Letters to the Editor:
These include correspondence related to material published in PJR, as well short scientific or clinical communications. Word length 400 words; up to 3 references.
Submission Preparation Checklist
As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
- The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
- The submission file is in Microsoft Word file format.
- Where available, URLs (Website addresses) for the references have been provided.
- The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
- The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
- If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
