CAUSES, EFFECTS, AND SOLUTIONS FOR MOIRÉ ARTIFACTS IN RADIOGRAPHIC IMAGING

Abstract


In digital radiography, moiré artifacts are interference patterns that result from the interaction between a digital detector's pixel matrix and an anti-scatter grid. These artifacts can potentially cause diagnostic errors and increased radiation exposure by blurring important diagnostic information and degrading image quality. Several factors contribute to their presence, including detector under-sampling, incorrect alignment, and mismatches in grid frequencies. Implementing high-frequency grids and ensuring correct alignment are effective methods to mitigate moiré artifacts. It is crucial to understand and manage these artifacts to maintain the accuracy and reliability of radiographic imaging in clinical practice
