PUTTY KIDNEY: A RARE MANIFESTATION OF RENAL TUBERCULOSIS
Abstract
Abstract: Tuberculous putty kidney is a rare outcome of long-standing genitourinary tuberculosis, where extensive tissue destruction and calcification leave the kidney shrunken and non-functional, filled with a dense, putty-like material. While advances in TB treatment have significantly reduced its occurrence, it remains a concern in areas where TB is common and in individuals with weakened immune systems. Symptoms are often vague or absent, making diagnosis difficult. However, imaging can reveal the distinctive calcifications that point to this condition. This case report details a patient’s presentation and imaging results, underscoring the need for early identification and differentiation from other kidney disorders.
