MIDLINE DERMOID TUMOR AND COLLOID CYST: A DUAL INTRACRANIAL ENCOUNTER
Abstract
Abstract:
Background: Colloid cysts and intracranial dermoid cysts are rare congenital lesions with debated embryological origins. We present a unique case of concurrent left parafalcine dermoid cyst and third ventricle colloid cyst, highlighting the rarity of their coexistence and prompting discussion on their potential unified embryological derivation.
Case Description: A 50-year-old male presented with generalized tonic-clonic seizures. Imaging revealed a left parafalcine dermoid cyst and a third ventricle colloid cyst. Surgical excision was performed, with histopathology confirming the diagnoses. The dermoid cyst exhibited characteristics consistent with its etiology, while the colloid cyst demonstrated typical features.
Conclusion: The coexistence of a dermoid cyst and colloid cyst in this case underscores the complex nature of midline intracranial lesions and raises questions regarding their embryological origins. This case contributes to the limited literature on concurrent presentation of these rare lesions, emphasizing the importance of thorough evaluation and surgical management.
Keywords: Colloid cyst, dermoid cyst, dual intracranial lesions, embryological origin, surgical management.
