INCIDENTAL DETECTION OF INTRALOBAR PULMONARY SEQUESTRATION ON COMPUTED TOMOGRAPHY: A CASE REPORT
Abstract
Pulmonary sequestration is a congenital lung abnormality that refers to non-functional lung tissue without connection to the bronchopulmonary system and receiving blood from a systemic artery. It is further characterized by two anatomic types, intralobar pulmonary sequestration and extralobar pulmonary sequestration. Intralobar pulmonary sequestration is the most common, constitutes approximately 75–86% of all sequestrations, is commonly found in the left lower lobe, and shares the visceral pleura of the native lung. We present a case of an elderly male patient referred for a CT scan of the abdomen for abdominal pain. Sections through the lower chest showed an incidental finding of a small area of intralobar sequestration in the right lower lobe medially.
