Abstract

Diagnostic imaging has advanced remarkably in last few years. There is lot of innovation in both morphologic and functional imaging tools. However, with these advancements the accessibility and affordability remains a large concern for majority in our part of world. Ultrasonography as an imaging tool has maintained its position in armamentarium of diagnosis in medicine. Non-invasiveness and use of sound waves compared to ionizing radiation as is the case with radiography, fluoroscopy and computed tomography makes it first and at times logical choice. This is particularly true for antenatal and pediatric imaging. Bedside imaging plays a key role in managing patients in neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. Ultrasound guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are also a big help in patient management.
