Abstract

Interventional radiotherapy (IRT), particularly brachytherapy, remains a cornerstone of precision cancer care. Despite its proven efficacy across multiple tumour sites, IRT continues to be underutilised in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), largely due to infrastructural limitations, workforce shortages, and gaps in formal training. This resident-led manuscript explores the current landscape of IRT education in LMICs, with a focus on mentorship, modular training, and international collaboration as key drivers of capacity building. Drawing on recent global initiatives and institutional experience, it outlines practical strategies to strengthen IRT integration into residency programmes and improve equitable access to advanced radiotherapy techniques.
